Our study into early California begins with its Native peoples. Understanding their way of life, and their interactions and interdependence with the environment, is essential to understanding how California has evolved over time. Our visit to the Marin Museum of the American Indian provides us with hands-on experiences that will give us a better glimpse into the life of Coastal Miwok people.
Here, we will visit a traditional 'kotcha' (Miwok home), take a walking tour to learn how the Miwok people relied upon and used the natural resources around them, see traditional artifacts in the museum, and participate in in hands-on activities like hoop-and-stick (for hunting practice) and drilling.
