A brief note about homework (in-person instruction):
Homework in 5th grade is assigned both nightly and weekly, with the expectation that students are spending an average of 30-50 minutes per night completing assignments and long-range projects, not including independent daily reading. You can anticipate that your child will consistently have nightly math homework (approximately 15-30 minutes), a weekly ELA (English/Language Arts) packet (approximately 15-30 minutes), independent reading, and at times, other project-based assignments.
While homework can be helpful in providing additional practice and increased exposure to new skills, I never want it to become the source of additional stress and tension. Please come see me right away if homework is getting in the way of a peaceful and harmonious home! There are many ways to practice beyond the page, and we will work together to find a successful solution.
A brief note about homework (distance learning/remote instruction)
During our time of remote instruction and distance learning, most homework as defined below will be embedded into the remote learning plan. Due to the nature of distance learning, students naturally work at a pace of comfort for their unique learning styles. On a daily basis, students are expected to complete the following, in addition to the assignments and projects listed on your child's instructional plan:
* 20-30 minutes Independent reading (silent or aloud)
* Multiplication Fact Fluency Practice (5 - 10 minutes, 2-3x week)
